Is anything too hard for the Lord?

Is anything too hard for the Lord?

“Is anything too hard for the Lord?”Genesis 18:14a NLT

The answer is a resounding, “NO!”. Nothing is too hard for the Lord. The first time we see these words in the form of a question is in Genesis. The Lord asked this rhetorical question when Sarah was caught laughing at God’s promise of making her and Abraham parents. Sarah laughed because maybe she figured God didn’t know science or her body or how old she was? Because if He did, then how could He possibly think that she could become pregnant at her age?!

But God asks and answers a question in the same verse: “Is anything impossible for the Lord? At the appointed time I will come back to you, and in about a year she will have a son.” Genesis‬ ‭18‬:‭14‬ ‭CSB‬‬

Can you relate to Sarah? Have you ever found yourself snickering at or not believing that God can do something that He has promised to do? Maybe it’s taking longer than you’d like? Or perhaps it looks differently than what you expected. Whatever the case, I believe we all can relate to Sarah in one way or another.

Even so, I want to remind you that God is not confined to our limited perspectives. He is not tethered to our time constraints. And unlike us - He is a man of His word. So if He said it, then He will surely do it - at the (His) appointed time.

In the book of Jeremiah, God asks this question again: “Look, I am the Lord, the God over every creature. Is anything too difficult for me? Jeremiah 32:27 CSB

This time the question is asked when He gives a prophecy to the prophet Jeremiah, that He would be handing Judah over into captivity to the Babylonians due to their consistent disobedience. But the prophecy doesn’t end without hope. He promises that at the appointed time, by His grace and love for them, He would redeem them and restore their fortunes.

All this to say,

  1. If God promised it, then He will make due on His word.

  2. There is nothing too hard for the Lord.

  3. God orchestrates all things for His glory, first and our good, second.

Dear reader, If God is allowing it, know that nothing is too hard for Him. If God is allowing it then allow it to serve as a reminder for you to look to Jesus.  In Luke 18 verse 27, Jesus tells His disciples: “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” Let’s not be like Sarah who laughed at God’s plans because she couldn’t see past her circumstances. Let’s learn from the disobedience of the Israelites by obeying God quickly. Let’s rest in relinquishing our desire to compete with God over the throne of our hearts and humbly allow Him to do all the things that are not too hard for Him to do.
